Picture Ripper – Powerful media grabber
Review by on
"Rich in information" is a poor description for the Internet. "It has it all" is more accurate, but downloading a video or audio file may involve searching a whole web site and it can get difficult, especially for a novice user. Now you can GET it all, at least when it comes to media files. Developed by Rouslan Grabar, Picture Ripper can find and download tons of pictures, audio or video files from a web site and its interface lets you do it in a single run.

If it caught your attention, you can try it by downloading the 6.22 Mb package and install it like any other software. Some Next buttons and a few check boxes are all that stand in your way.

You don't need any advanced knowledge to figure out how Picture Ripper works. The interface is quite easy to understand. There are three main views to switch between in the main window: Dashboard, Manage Projects and View Images. You can access each view type by clicking on its designated button in the lower left corner of the window. Each view has its own set of options or statistics placed on a tasks column right above the view selection buttons.

To start getting those images or other media, one needs to be on the Manage Projects view, where he can click the Create New Project hyperlink on the left side column. Creating a new project will require going through a wizard where you can specify one or more web sites, choose what kind of media you want to download, and a few other settings. Once you're done with the wizard, you can make additional settings to the project in the Manage Projects view.

A project can't be launched unless you save it first. Once this is done, you can click the Start button on the toolbar. This will automatically take you to the Dashboard view where you will see, in real time, each URL that the program is crawling through. During the ripping process, the tasks column will display statistics such as duration, found, processed or failed links, overall progress and system resources.

When it's all done, you can click the Browse The Results Folder hyperlink from the task column which will take you directly to the output folder. Alternatively, you can switch to the image view mode. The tasks column will turn into a navigation pane which you can use to access your computer's folders in order to manually reach the results. This view mode, however, is not as effective as navigating in a standard explorer window.

Pros:
Picture Ripper's features are easy to use. Everything clicks logically into place, so there's no chance someone can get lost in the interface.

Cons:
The image view mode isn't that useful. Not when you can find a button that will directly open the results folder.

Don't waste your time manually saving every image on a web site. Picture Ripper can download any media type in a single, swift run.
